Houston Criminal District Judges Argue For Dismissal of Bail Reform Lawsuit

Harris County's 23 criminal district judges argue they should be dismissed as defendants from a lawsuit that alleges their felony bail practices are unconstitutional because they keep poor people in jail before trial, disproportionately impacting people of color.

A group of district judges in Houston on Thursday argued for dismissal of a lawsuit alleging their felony bail practices are unconstitutional because they discriminate against poor people, keeping them jailed when they can’t pay bail.
