LPI Conference Report - Collective redress, Class Action and Legal Protection Insurance

On the 50th anniversary of RIAD’s (International Association of Legal Protection Insurance) foundation, representatives from the legal protection insurance industry worldwide gathered in Berlin.

Over two days, they discussed collective redress procedures worldwide, how they are evolving, and the role insurers, law firms, states, funders and consumers have to play in them.

The world of collective redress procedures includes class actions, representative proceedings, Germany’s Musterfeststellungsklage (MFK) and, imminently, a European Union (EU) Directive in the area. Australia, the UK, and many EU member states have their own systems, all with individual strengths and weaknesses, which international experts discussed in depth during panels and keynote speeches.
